Academic experience

DU Wei, associate professor and postgraduate supervisor at College of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University, teaches subjects at both undergraduate and graduate level, including Consumer Behavior in Tourism, Tourism Aesthetics, Creative Planning of Cultural Tourism Industries and MTA Professional English.

Her research interests focus on tourist consumer behaviour, cultural tourism, psychology of service in tourism and hospitality, impacts of tourism and public relations. She has hosted and participated in dozens of projects as a team leader or chief member, including academic research, development planning of tourist destinations and teaching reform programs.

She has written and published quite a few books and academic articles since 1988, of which, Consumer Behavior in Tourism( Nankai University Press, 2009, 2019), Psychology of Tourism (Tourism Education Press, 2005, 2010), Tour Guide Business (Higher Education Press, 2001, 2007, 2018), Theory and Practice of Public Relations in Tourism Industries (Tourism Education Press, 2005, 2015, 2018) are representative works and have been adopted as textbooks by hundreds of colleges and universities in China. Tour Guide Business was rated as a national-level textbook by the Ministry of Education.

She has been invited to be an evaluation expert on graduate thesis by the Degree and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education since 2016 till now.  

Industry experience, including industry related professional development

During the year of 2009~2010, DU Wei was sent to serve as a deputy director of Culture and Tourism Bureau of Heping District in Tianjin, mainly responsible for the 12th Five-year Development Plan of Tourism Industry of Heping District and Tourism Planning of Wudadao Area, one of the most famous tourist attractions in the urban area of Tianjin now. She was invited as a consulting expert of tourism for the district.

Since 2010, she has been invited almost every year by the China Tourism Association Tourism Education Committee to serve as the referee of National Competition of Tourism Service Skills of Tourism Colleges and Universities and was appointed as the referee group leader for the item of tour guide narration in English.  

Since 1990s till recent years, she has been a lecturer for training programs organised by national or local tourism governmental department and tourism enterprises, and short-term programs for foreign students visiting Nankai University. She was invited to provide a short-term training program in Sri Lanka in August 2014 for its national tourism department and local officials and staff.
