The institute focus on following research areas:

(1) Improve the ability to respond to major national strategic policies. The institute conducts basic, forward-looking and theoretical research on major topics such as rural revitalization strategy and rural tourism development, regularly publish academic research reports on rural revitalization and rural tourism development.

(2) Promoting high-level academic research. The researchers will take roots in China's rural society and taking cutting-edge academic issues of rural development as research objects. It has published high-level and high-quality research achievements in the world's three most influential tourism academic journals and other top-notch journals of first-level disciplines identified by the College of Tourism and Service Management, impacting major national research topics and improving the international ranking of tourism disciplines.

(3) Promoting scientific research achievements to serve local social and economic development. The institute will practice the concept of "knowing China and serving China", give full play to the advantages of the academic committee of China Tourism Academy, and actively cooperate with the World Tourism Alliance, UNESCO, the World Tourism Organization, the Asia-Pacific Regional Tourism Organization, the United Nations Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, the Rural Revitalization Bureau of The State Council, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and local governments. We will provide social services around the rural revitalization strategy and major issues of rural social-economic development.
