To further promote the overall education work, strengthen the construction of the class advisor team, consolidate the educational collaboration between class advisors and counselors, and provide a platform for learning and exchange, the College of Tourism and Service Management recently launched the Class Advisor Workshop. The workshop focuses on addressing the challenges and pain points in students' growth, facilitating learning exchange, and practical exploration. The inaugural session of the workshop took place on November 2 in Room 336 of the college, featuring a training session and discussion led by Li Biao, the Youth League Committee Secretary of the Taide College and a full-time psychologist at the university's Student Mental Health Counseling Center. Yang Xiaojing, the Deputy Party Secretary of the College of Tourism and Service Management, Huo Fei, the Youth League Committee Secretary, and representatives of class advisors from various undergraduate levels attended the event.
At the beginning of the workshop, Yang Xiaojing introduced the purpose of establishing the Class Advisor Workshop, acknowledging the dedication of class advisors to the college and students. She emphasized that class advisors were crucial forces in advancing overall education at the college, playing an indispensable role in students' ideological education, professional training, and life and career guidance. Given the evolving patterns and characteristics of students' personal growth and school education, it is essential for class advisors to continually enhance communication with counselors, various university departments, and students, exploring new educational concepts and methods. The college aims to use the Class Advisor Workshop to build a platform for class advisors to exchange experiences, effectively address practical needs and issues, and enhance the efficiency of their work. The theme of the first workshop, focusing on student mental health issues, was selected based on recent challenges faced by class advisors in their work.
Subsequently, Mr. Li Biao gave a lecture for class advisors on common psychological issues among university students. He discussed the types, main manifestations, criteria for identification, and coping strategies for common psychological problems among university students. Tailoring his presentation to the working characteristics of class advisors, he particularly emphasized several common psychological issues within the university student population. He shared cases and practical experiences from his work. Li Biao pointed out that with the increase in societal pressures and heightened awareness of mental health, the incidence of psychological crises among university students has significantly risen in recent years. Class advisors, as a unique group distinct from students' parents, counselors, and regular faculty, often possess both the professional credibility of teachers and the affinity to guide a class. They may become a trusted source for students seeking help when facing psychological issues. He emphasized that when dealing with students' psychological issues, whether class advisors, counselors, or psychological counselors, the first step is to be good listeners, while also having a certain understanding of psychology. Regarding student psychological issues, Li Biao stressed that class advisors should focus on daily guidance and attention, emphasizing preventive measures.
In the final session, class advisors engaged in lively discussions, sharing their challenges in student mental health education and seeking advice. Li Biao shared his work experiences and suggestions, and class advisors exchanged insights, analyzing specific challenges based on the characteristics of the College of Tourism and Service Management and its students. The inaugural Class Advisor Workshop received unanimous approval from the class advisors.
It is reported that the College of Tourism and Service Management will use the Class Advisor Workshop as a platform to regularly address common issues related to class advisor work. It will invite teachers from relevant departments to participate in the workshop, striving to cultivate class advisors in the college as a team of dedicated and compassionate educators with ideals, moral integrity, solid knowledge, and a caring heart.
