On October 19, 2023, to enhance the students' understanding of the new business forms of the hotel industry and improve the professional quality of tourism, adhering to the concept of combining theory with practice, led by Associate Professor Jiao Yan, director of the MTA Education Center of the college, 23 full-time MTA students of the College of Tourism and Service Management started a wonderfully practical teaching trip to Tianjin Astor Hotel.

At 9 o 'clock on the morning of the 19th, the students were full of expectations for the upcoming tour of the Hotel and Museum in Astor. After arriving at the hotel, the teachers and students of the College began the visit with the enthusiastic company of Yin Shuyi, head of the Marketing Department of Tianjin Astor Hotel and a graduate of Nankai MTA 2022.

Tianjin Astor Hotel has hosted many world leaders and witnessed many landmark events, including the founding father Dr. Sun Yat-sen who stayed here three times. The students first visited Sun Yat-sen Suite, the hotel's celebrity theme suite, in the decoration style, to retain the historical old form, and with the modern presidential luxury suite model combined, unique style, and different from the presidential luxury suite facilities of any hotel in our country, known as Tsui Heng Bei apartment. After that, they visited the suite where former U.S. President Herbert Hoover and his wife Lou Henry stayed in Astor, where Hoover and his wife spent their honeymoon as newlyweds.

It's an old shop with a hundred years of history. There is a 700-square-meter museum in Astor, which is also the first hotel museum in China. The entrance of the museum is located next to the first-generation Otis elevator introduced by the hotel in 1924. The museum's collection includes nearly 3,000 items, including silver tableware used by Sun Yat-sen and the old menu of Li Hongzhang's banquet for the King of Hawaii in Astor. Through this visit to the "Astor Museum", the students had a detailed understanding of the development of Astor over the past 160 years.

After the visit, Ms. Yuan Lin, deputy secretary of the Party General Branch and deputy general manager of the Astor Hotel, had a relaxed and pleasant exchange with the teachers and students of the college. Mr. Yuan introduced the 160th anniversary of Astor to the students in this year, which made many new attempts, including the intangible cultural heritage activities in the New Year, the balcony market in April, the night tour museum activities, and the appearance of gold rickshaw, etc. The students also made suggestions on their own visit experience, and put forward their questions on the queries generated in the preliminary data collection. Mr. Yuan answered them one by one from a professional point of view and affirmed the speeches of the students. The whole exchange was full of dry goods, and the students benefited a lot.

Finally, Associate Professor Jiao Yan, Director of MTA Education Center, College of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University, thanked the guests for their sharing and strong support during the visit and looked forward to continuing to strengthen exchanges between the two sides and promote the integration of industry and education in the future.
