To foster discipline awareness among freshmen and reinforce education on student integrity and standards, the College of Tourism and Service Management held a special education session titled 'Cultivating Self-awareness of Discipline for University Students' on September 6. This session, targeting the entire undergraduate, master's, and doctoral 2023 cohort, was led by Yang Xiaojing, Deputy Party Secretary, Disciplinary Inspection Committee Member, and Vice Dean of the College.
Discipline awareness is essential for the personal growth and career development of young students, forming a fundamental aspect of their integration into society and healthy development. Yang Xiaojing initiated the lecture by stressing the importance of instilling discipline awareness in university students and underscored the need for 'baseline discipline' among the new students. She pointed out that the conscious development of discipline awareness is not only crucial for young students' growth but also a continuation of Nankai University's century-old tradition. She inspired the freshmen to uphold Nankai's legacy by tackling challenges with a 'the harder, the more open' mindset and embracing opportunities as members of the "Nankai development community".
The session then provided an in-depth overview of relevant laws and disciplinary regulations, analyzed clauses applicable to university students and party members, and detailed the behavioral norms students should maintain in their academic and personal lives. With the 2023 cohort having experienced extensive online classes during high school, there was a special focus on standardized online behavior requirements, emphasizing that 'the internet is not a lawless space.' Yang Xiaojing used scenes from the TV series 'Wishing You Safety' and real-life university cases to demonstrate the repercussions of public order and moral violations. These examples resonated deeply with the students, prompting serious reflection on discipline awareness.
In the lecture's concluding part, Yang Xiaojing offered guidance for students to consciously build their discipline awareness, encouraging continuous self-improvement. She urged the students to become civilized individuals who respect virtue and rules, 'Nankai people' knowledgeable about and serving China, and modern individuals ready to shoulder national rejuvenation responsibilities.
Post-lecture, many students shared their insights, reflecting on their behavior and discipline awareness. Zhang Litian, a 2023 doctoral student, expressed that the session profoundly impacted her. As a party member under strict governance, she emphasized self-discipline in academics and life and committed to upholding baseline principles. She vowed to further strengthen her discipline awareness and remain open to supervision from teachers and peers.
The College of Tourism and Service Management places a high priority on instilling fundamental thinking and integrity in new students. This focus on discipline awareness is a key aspect of new student orientation and is integrated into the college's activities to create a positive academic environment. Recently, the college has enhanced discipline awareness and integrity among freshmen through various activities, including education on undergraduate regulations and lectures on academic integrity and research norms for graduate students. These efforts guide freshmen to conscientiously follow rules, adhere to ethical standards, and embark on a journey of safety and health.
