On June 21, the graduation ceremony for the 2023 University of Macau Tianjin Study Exchange Program was held at Nankai University's Jinnan Campus.
Wang Changsong, Chairman of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Deng Zhonghua, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Li Shaohong, Vice Chairman of the Tianjin CPPCC, Yang Qingshan, Secretary of the Nankai University Party Committee, and Yang Kexin, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, attended the closing ceremony. The leaders present awarded graduation certificates to the 27 Macau students who participated in the study exchange.
Deng Zhonghua stated that the Macau University students' Tianjin study exchange program aims to deepen the understanding of Macau students about the motherland and Tianjin, enhance the capabilities of young friends in building and developing Macau, and contribute to the stability and progress of the 'One Country, Two Systems' policy. He hoped that everyone would uphold moral integrity, achieve new advancements based on a solid foundation of patriotism, enhance wisdom through practical actions in safeguarding the country, and demonstrate new responsibilities. Deng emphasized the importance of adopting a proactive approach, strengthening the sense of ownership in serving Macau and its citizens, considering issues from the standpoint of the overall national and fundamental interests of Macau, and actively contributing to the successful implementation of 'One Country, Two Systems,' 'Macau people governing Macau,' and high autonomy. He encouraged them to face the world, focus on the future, enhance their learning, improve their skills, and actively serve Macau and contribute to the nation, maintaining a steadfast love for the motherland and Macau and aspiring to contribute to the long-term prosperity and stability of Macau and the success of the 'One Country, Two Systems' policy in the practice of national rejuvenation.
Li Shaohong expressed that since Macau's return to the motherland, remarkable achievements have been made in various fields such as the economy, society, and people's livelihoods, gaining wide recognition from the central government, Macau, and the international community. The frequent exchanges and close ties between people from Tianjin and Macau over the years have yielded fruitful results in various fields of economic and social development. In the new situation, further strengthening the exchange and cooperation between Tianjin and Macau, realizing complementary advantages, is of great significance for promoting the common prosperity and development of Tianjin and Macau, benefiting the people of both regions. Li hoped that young friends from Macau would bravely shoulder the responsibilities entrusted by the times, constantly sharpen themselves, grow continuously, become pillars of the nation, and actively contribute to the vibrant practice of building Macau, revitalizing the motherland, and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, making due contributions to the long-term prosperity and stability of Macau and the modernization of the country.
Yang Qingshan stated that during his inspection of Nankai University, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out, 'Patriotism is the national spirit and soul of the Chinese nation. Nankai University has a glorious tradition of patriotism, which is the soul of Nankai.' Under the guidance of the spirit of the General Secretary's instructions, Nankai University has forged ahead, made great strides, and achieved new achievements in various reforms and developments. He encouraged Macau students to deepen and internalize their experiences at Tianjin and Nankai University, transforming them into a profound love for the motherland and Macau, and practical actions integrated into the overall development of the country. He urged them to strive to fulfill the idea of 'knowing China, serving China' in the era of strengthening the nation, contributing to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and living up to the best of their youth.
The Macau University Student Tianjin Study Exchange Program was initiated and promoted by Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC. It is organized by the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Tianjin CPPCC, and the Macau Foundation. The College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University and the Macau Institute for Tourism Studies are the hosts. The program has been held for seven sessions to date. In 2023, a total of 27 students from five Macau universities, including the University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macau Polytechnic Institute, Macau City University, and the Macau Institute for Tourism Studies, participated in a 15-day study exchange in Tianjin.
During the ceremony, three representatives of Macau students shared their reflections and insights on the experiences at Tianjin and Nankai University from the perspectives of patriotism, cultural experiences, and event organization. The students expressed profound appreciation for Nankai University's splendid history as a century-old institution, the enduring patriotic sentiments passed down through generations, and the warm hospitality of Nankai teachers and students. They also felt the unique charm of Tianjin's blend of Chinese and Western cultures, the compatibility of ancient and modern, and the pervasive spirit of patriotism. They deeply experienced the great achievements of the Chinese Communist Party in uniting and leading the Chinese people. As future builders of Macau, they pledged to further build bridges of friendship, integrate themselves into the greater whole, dedicate their youth to the motherland, and contribute more to the promotion of exchange and cooperation between Tianjin and Macau.
