On the afternoon of April 6, Professor Yao Yanbo, a mentor from the First Wisdom College, along with industry mentors Han Shaoping and An Zhenhuan, gathered with students in Room 307 to discuss the general abilities they currently possess and the ones they need to enhance for the future, taking a perspective on entering society.
The three mentors started the discussion by sharing their experiences, prompting students to contemplate general abilities. The teachers emphasized the need to use general abilities to learn specialized knowledge, including learning ability, comprehension, resilience, problem discovery, and problem-solving skills. Subsequently, students shared their experiences in academic and daily life where they needed general abilities, such as dealing with dormitory inspections and conflicts with strangers in a natural history museum. The mentors guided students to discuss these situations, and in the process of offering suggestions to each other, the mentors summarized that growth happens through experiences.
Afterward, the mentors shared professional materials related to general abilities. Students assessed and voted on their corresponding abilities. The voting results indicated that the most needed ability for improvement among students is execution. In response to this, the mentors first guided students to identify their difficulties in execution. Based on this, students summarized the obstacles they need to overcome, such as psychological obstacles to facing difficulties. The mentors suggested solutions, such as making multiple plans and planning repeatedly. Finally, students wrote down three feasible suggestions for improving execution and exchanged them with each other.
In conclusion, students shared their growth and gains from this exchange meeting and expressed anticipation for future discussions and reflections on enhancing other general abilities.
