Our college successfully held the "Seminar on Industry-Education Integration of Tourism Management"

November 10th, 2022, the "Seminar on Industry-Education Integration of Tourism Management" held by the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University was successfully held online. This seminar invited: Professor Lin Bishu, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, School of Management, Xiamen University; Professor Wen Ji, Executive Dean of Shenzhen Institute of Tourism, Jinan University; and Professor Zhao Shuhong, Vice Dean of School of Business Administration and Tourism Management, Yunnan University. The three guests shared views on the characteristics and experience of industry-education integration teaching of tourism majors in their institutions. Professor Yao Yanbo, Vice Dean the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University, chaired the seminar. Professor Li Chuanyong, Director of Academic Affairs of Nankai University; and Professor Xu Hong, Dean of the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University, were invited to the seminar and made speeches.

 

Professor Yao Yanbo introduced the school leaders and guests attending the meeting. She welcomed the participating teachers. Then, the host introduced the seminar relying on the educational reform project "Virtual Teaching and Research Department of Industry-Education Integration of Tourism Management" funded by the Academic Affairs Office of Nankai University. It aims to give full play to the leading role of the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University in professional construction and the integration of industry and education. Moreover, it aims to attract more tourism colleges to participate in the construction of virtual teaching and research departments specializing in tourism management. At the same time, it also takes this opportunity to provide a platform for exchanges and discussions between tourism fraternal universities across the country, and jointly explore how tourism disciplines can use the integration of industry, education and research to innovate teaching and research forms, strengthen professional construction, implement teaching research and share high-quality resources.

Professor Li Chuanyong, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Nankai University, was invited to deliver a speech. First of all, Professor Li pointed out that under the social change and the change of the environment of the times, college education faces many new challenges, such as the epochal of cultivating virtue and cultivating people, the coupling of teachers and students, as well as the border lessness of the educational environment and the long-term nature of educational goals. She pointed out that teachers should play a key role in meeting the challenges. Secondly, Professor Li pointed out that Nankai University has been committed to exploring the "teacher-student community" education model based on OBE and future orientation. She introduced the work of the construction of the virtual teaching and research department of Nankai University, including Nankai University, which has successively built 14 university-level teaching and research teams since 2019, and was approved as the first batch of virtual teaching and research departments in China in 2022. Finally, Professor Li also emphasized that it is a joyous exploration for the College of Tourism and Service Management to combine the professional characteristics of tourism management and cooperate with tourism colleges and enterprises to promote the integration of industry and education in the form of virtual teaching and research departments. The Academic Affairs Office of the University will continue to support the work of the College of Tourism and Service Management in the future and hope that the College will do its work in the future and further exert the educational effect of virtual teaching and research department of industry-education integration.

Professor Lin Bishu from the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, School of Management, Xiamen University, shared that "Walking Classroom' is a Practical Ideological and Political Research Model Close to Reality". Professor Lin introduced the research education that his department has been implementing since 2012. He regarded the "walking classroom" as an essential research method to practice "the unity of knowledge and action". Professor Lin gave a detailed example of leading students to visit Taiwan for tourism practice research and Jinggang Mountain to conduct red research. Combining the research, reflection, experiential and subjective characteristics of the "walking classroom" of the tourism major, Professor Lin explored the dynamic educational effect of the mobile classroom, so that what students can learn can be applied to practice to achieve quality education and cultivate compound tourism talents.

Professor Wen Ji, Executive Dean of Shenzhen Institute of Tourism of Jinan University, shared a speech entitled "'Expert' + 'Expert': Sharing of Industry-University-Research Model of Tourism Discipline in Jinan University". Based on the construction process of the tourism discipline at Jinan University, Professor Wen introduced the industry-university-research philosophy, industry-university-research mode and thinking of tourism major. First of all, Professor Wen pointed out that the application attributes of the tourism discipline are highly compatible with industry-university-research, and the industry-university-research model can help the differentiated training of tourism students and the ideological and political development of professional courses. Secondly, she introduced the industry-university-research concept system of the tourism discipline of Jinan University, differentiated the training direction of master's and doctoral students, and cultivated students into "experts" and "experts". After that, the industry-university-research platform will be built through special courses such as professional tourism inspection, and the educational mode innovation such as teaching content, teaching modes and course assessment that integrates industry-university-research will be carried out. Finally, Professor Wen also shared her thoughts on integrating industry, education and research in tourism, and hoped to enhance students' awareness of tourism discipline and love for the profession through reforming industry-university-research teaching, to achieve positive educational effects.

Professor Zhao Shuhong, Deputy Dean of the School of Business Administration and Tourism Management of Yunnan University, shared the theme of "Cultivating Compound Tourism Management Professionals in the Integration of Industry and Education". Professor Zhao introduced the background of the national policy on the integration of industry and education, and pointed out that the integration of industry and education is conducive to the complementary advantages of "Industry" and "Education", which is of great significance to the development of the tourism industry and the cultivation of tourism talents. After that, Professor Zhao combined the practice of industry-education integration in her college. She summarized the concept of teaching content innovation with immersive social practice as the core and all-around real participation experience through practice methods, practice space, practice content and practice process. The integration of industry and education is divided into four stages: Origin, development, collaboration and symbiosis, and the corresponding four evolution processes of "practical training and second course", "mobile classroom and practice", "two-way interaction and integration", and "industrial college, laboratory and innovation center". In order to solve the problem of mismatch between teaching internship and talent training positioning and the problem of disconnection between theoretical knowledge and industrial reality, to improve students' professional cognition, enrich industrial practice experience and improve employability.

Finally, Professor Xu Hong, Dean of the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University, gave a concluding speech. Dean Xu thanked the guests very much for their sharing. She said that through this seminar, she further understood the teaching reform and the exploration and practice of integrating industry and education carried out by domestic universities in combination with their advantages and characteristics of tourism disciplines and deeply inspired the teaching reform of our institute. Dean Xu summarized the meeting from four aspects: The realization of the goal of integrating industry and education is inseparable from the teacher's love and dedication to the profession, the top-level design and multi-party collaboration, and the goal superposition and quality effect of the collaborative subject. Dean Xu invited guests and participating teachers to visit Nankai often to pass on the scriptures and send treasures.

The teaching reform project of the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University "Virtual Teaching and Research Department of Industry-Education Integration of Tourism Management" was established to implement the spirit of the "Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Accelerating the Construction of High-level Undergraduate Education and Comprehensively Improving the Ability of Talent Training" and the "Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Deepening the Reform of Undergraduate Education and Teaching and Comprehensively Improving the Quality of Talent Training". The purpose is to explore and promote the construction of new grassroots teaching organizations and comprehensively improve teachers' ability to teach and educate people. The seminar attracted nearly 80 college teachers nationwide and achieved specific social impact.
