To implement the critical speech on education by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, effectively strengthen the work of aesthetic education and cultivate comprehensive tourism talents, the College of Tourism and Service Management continuously carries out the "Dream Journey" series of aesthetic education practical activities. On the afternoon of November 10th, the "Appreciating the Charm of Calligraphy and Inheriting Chinese Culture" calligraphy art experience activity and the appointment ceremony of aesthetic education mentors were successfully held in classroom 111 of the college. This event invited Prof. Liu Yunfeng from the School of Journalism and Communication of Nankai University to teach calligraphy knowledge and lead students to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture. Vice Dean Yang Dejin delivered a speech, and over 50 undergraduate students participated in the event.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice Dean Yang Dejin expressed sincere welcome and gratitude to Prof. Liu and shared his insights on aesthetic education with the students participating in the activity. He pointed out that accepting the immersion of aesthetic education is crucial for enhancing the comprehensive literacy of the students and that aesthetic education is a "silent nurturing" for their growth. The tourism discipline should develop towards deep integration with aesthetic education and cultivate tourism talents with high comprehensive literacy who can create beauty. Subsequently, Vice Dean Yang Dejin presented the appointment letter of the aesthetic education mentor to Prof. Liu.
During the activity, Prof. Liu Yunfeng shared his forty-year connection with the tourism discipline and introduced the students' basic knowledge of Chinese calligraphy, emphasizing the importance of calligraphy in cultivating one's character and personal development. He then led the students in experiencing calligraphy writing by demonstrating how to copy and write calligraphy, emphasizing the significant role of copying in improving calligraphy skills, which is an endless pursuit. During the activity, the students earnestly copied calligraphy works, and Prof. Liu provided detailed explanations and guidance. After the students gained a basic understanding of calligraphy knowledge, a small quiz about calligraphy fonts was held on-site, and the students actively participated, with Prof. Liu providing detailed introductions and appreciation of the calligraphy works in the questions, which further deepened the students' understanding of the meaning and beauty of calligraphy works.
The activity ended with warm applause from the students. They expressed that through Prof. Liu Yunfeng's introduction to calligraphy knowledge, practice, and experience, they sincerely appreciated the charm of calligraphy art and Chinese traditional culture. While practising calligraphy, they were able to calm their minds, cultivate themselves, and improve their character. This activity also inspired the students to inherit and promote excellent Chinese culture, draw nutrition and wisdom from traditional Chinese culture, and continuously improve their aesthetic taste and comprehensive literacy.
It is reported that the College of Tourism and Service Management will continue to strengthen the work of aesthetic education with high standards, high quality, and high requirements through various forms and rich content of activities, to effectively improve students' aesthetic abilities and cultural literacy, to beautify people, nurture people with beauty, and to nurture talents with beauty.
