To explore new education reform models, enhance the tourism major's attractiveness and practicality, and strengthen students' service practice and entrepreneurial skills. And with the support and guidance of the Tourism Department and the Youth League Committee of the college, the Tourism Planning Training Camp Fall 2022 Class officially opened on October 23rd at 9:30 am in Room 109. Eighteen undergraduate students majoring in tourism and above in the second year of study, who were selected through a rigorous selection process, attended the opening ceremony and completed the first training session.
Prof. Yang Dejin, as the full-time counsellor of the training camp, presided over the opening ceremony and the first session on "Planning Professional Spirit and Qualities". He introduced the mission and purpose of the training camp, which is to "train for the modernization of cultural tourism in China", and the specific content of the "One phase, Eight training sessions" program. He hoped the students would achieve new professional growth in the requirements of "learning and training together, real-life practice, and innovation as the focus". From the perspective of teaching reform and innovation, Vice Dean Yao Yanbo gave full affirmation to the teaching innovation and practical significance of the training camp and hoped that the training camp would become a classic case of "production, study, and research" teaching reform, setting an example for future similar activities. Wang Zhao, the Secretary of the College Youth League Committee, linked the training camp with innovation and entrepreneurship, giving examples of how innovation and entrepreneurship are not far from the students and hoping that they would accumulate professional qualities in the training camp and become tourism professionals rooted in the land of China in the new era.
Staff members distributed laptops and camp badges to all students during the event. Yang introduced the meaning of the camp badge, which features the English acronym TPC for Tourism Planning Camp. The horizontal and vertical lines of the "T" represent the responsibility on the student's shoulders and the hope that they will use their pens to root themselves in the country's expectations. During the ceremony, Yao presented the camp flag to the camp leader, Tang Haiyu, who gave a speech on behalf of the camp and accepted the flag. Cui Yuanfeng, the director of the Greenweaver Cultural and Tourism Group's Comprehensive Tourism Center, served as the specially invited instructor for the first training session. He provided an in-depth and straightforward lecture on the professional spirit and qualities of tourism planning, including the professional charm of planning and requirements for the profession, the requirements for planning work, the professional attributes and advice for planning, and professional spirit. Finally, the students asked the teachers for advice on how undergraduates can participate in planning, suggestions for defining and implementing innovation, and recommendations for cross-disciplinary reserves for tourism professionals. With that, the opening ceremony of the Tourism Planning Camp came to a successful conclusion.
