Two MTA Teaching Achievements Honored with University-Level Teaching Achievement Awards

Two MTA teaching achievements of CTSM were recognized by experts and awarded the Special Prize and the First Prize of 2022 Nankai University Teaching Achievement Award, respectively. They are, Course Cluster Construction for MTA: Building a First-class “Micro Master” Program and Exploring and Practicing the Integration of MTA Multi-practice Teaching in the Context of Industry-education Integration.

 

The project Course Cluster Construction for MTA: Building a First-class “Micro Master” Program is completed by Prof. Yao Yanbo, Prof. Qiu Hanqin, Dr. Du Wei, Dr. Li Xiaoyi, Dr. Ma Jing, Dr. Chen Jiagang, and Dr. Zhang Junjiao. It has systematically built the online courses of MTA professional courses, formed a core curriculum system combining online and offline courses of MTA education, and formulated the implementation rules, which provides support for MTA “micro master” program with strong curriculum system and criteria construction. At present, online course cluster has been completed, including “Hospitality English”, “Internet-using Behavior Analysis”, “Cross-cultural Management”, “Tourism Planning and Strategy”, and “Applied Research Method and Consultancy”. The project team will further improve the curriculum system and deepen the development and application of course resources.

 

The project Exploring and Practicing the Integration of MTA Multi-practice Teaching in the Context of Industry-education Integration is completed by Dr. Jiao Yan, Dr. Huang Jing, Prof. Yao Yanbo, and Dr. Chen Yujia. Based on the experience of diversified practical teaching, the project aims at improving the professional practice ability of MTA students. It sorts out the teaching rules of different practice teaching activities and systematically analyzes the complementary advantages of different industry-education integration, and based on which it further reconstructs, designs, and implements the multi-practice teaching activities. Relying on the core course “Destination Development and Management”, the practical teaching activities systematically integrate the three stages of learning in class, field study, and outcome transformation, realizing the integration of objectives, content, industry-education resources, and assessment. It has not only won the unanimous praise of students, but also realized the functional transformation of the practice base from “providing internship positions” to “providing multiple practice opportunities” and the role transformation of industry advisors from “accepting practice teaching tasks” to “participating in the design of the whole process of practice teaching”. As a result, it has effectively improved the quality of industry-education integration in MTA education.

 

MTA program of Nankai University is a professional degree program born in the context of China’s tourism industry being established as a strategic pillar industry. Since its establishment, MTA program has adhered to the teaching philosophy of Nankai University “Knowing China, Serving China”, and insisted on the direction of close integration of theory and practice. The training mode of close integration of industry-university-research has been continuously improved and the quality of talent training has been steadily enhanced. The CTSM will continue to promote more meaningful teaching practice innovation and exploration, and actively empower the high-quality development of MTA education of Nankai University.
