On September 8, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) released the project review results for 2022. Dr. Zhang Junjiao’s project “The Impact of Tourist-Host Interaction on Consumer Behavior in Local-Guided New Urban Tourism: A Cognitive Surplus Perspective” was granted the Youth Fund project.
From the cognitive surplus perspective, this project explores the impact of tourist-host interaction on a new type of urban experience activities, named local-guided new urban tourism, which is planned and organized by the local residents in the destination city. Based on conceptualizing the special context of the local-guided new urban tourism, it proposes a conceptual framework predicting how tourist-host interaction involves and affects consumers’ decision-making process in their local-guided new urban tourism. This project has significant practical implications for urban destinations to update and innovate the travel service and models, and to promote the integration of urban and tourism with the tool of the “flexible function” of cities.
