Discipline brand is the subjective impression that relevant stakeholders have on a certain discipline, which leads them to have a preference for choosing this discipline. Brand reputation is not only a tool to attract external attention but also a force for internal management. Recently, Maigoo, a website specializing in brand analysis, released a list of the top ten best majors at Nankai University, and our tourism management majors were included, indicating that our tourism management discipline has made new progress in brand influence.
Nankai University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education and the earliest institution in China to offer undergraduate programs in tourism. It is also the first unit to be authorized to grant master's, professional master's, and doctoral degrees in tourism management science, as well as the Secretariat of the National Tourism Management Master's Degree Education Steering Committee. The university has two national first-class undergraduate majors in tourism management and exhibition economics and management, actively leading the reform and innovation of tourism education, and has trained a large number of outstanding talents. The college has a strong teaching staff, and its teachers have been selected as various high-level teaching and research personnel/team construction echelons of the Ministry of Education, Tianjin, and Nankai University, as well as excellent industry experts echelons of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, serving as editorial board members for various top/domestic and international journals in this discipline, and being selected as fellows of mainstream organizations in China's tourism research and top scientists globally, as well as being appointed as counselors and special consultants by local governments at all levels such as Tianjin. In recent years, the academic and research level of the college's tourism management has been rapidly improved, and it has published high-quality research results based on the academic frontier and grounded in the homeland. It has obtained a large number of national natural science and social science fund projects, as well as various awards from domestic and foreign organizations such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Tianjin, IFITT, and the Tourism Education Branch of China Tourism Association. This year, the construction of the college's tourism and leisure management discipline has made a new breakthrough: entering the top 50 globally (ranked 36th). The college has multiple important cross-disciplinary platforms for the development of modern tourism industry, and its social service and policy research achievements are abundant. It has established academic cooperation with top international universities in this discipline such as the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Surrey, and established industrial cooperation with pioneers in the industry such as the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the World Tourism Alliance, China Tourism Group, and Hainan Airlines Tourism Group.
Based on high-quality teaching staff, the college will steadily promote the three major functions of talent cultivation, scientific and technological development, and social service, and develop into a leading international tourism education college with innovative models.
