(Correspondent: Zhou Shiyu) On June 17, 2022, the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University conducted an online teaching and research activity with the theme of “Teaching and Curriculum Reform Based on Laboratory Platform". Professor Xu Hong, the Dean of the College, and Professor Yao Yanbo, the Vice Dean, attended the symposium. The symposium was hosted by Associate Professor Wang Jingna, the Deputy Director of the Department of MICE.

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Yao Yanbo interpreted the purpose of this teaching and research activity and emphasized the necessity of incorporating laboratory courses into the undergraduate education system and the guiding role of experimental teaching in the construction of first-class undergraduate programs. Associate Professor Li Xiaoyi, the Deputy Director of the Tourism Experimental Teaching Center, gave a detailed introduction to the existing resources, technical platforms, and course usage of the laboratory in the college, and discussed the "light assets and heavy creation" experimental teaching route under the current epidemic prevention and control situation. He emphasized the core position of intellectual property rights in experimental teaching and discussed how to play the leading and radiating role of the College of Tourism and Service Management in the future laboratory platform construction.

 

Subsequently, Associate Professor Cheng Hongbo, Teacher Huang Qing, and Dr. Chen Yujia discussed specific course practices. Associate Professor Cheng Hongbo shared the teaching mode of the practical course "Exhibition Practice" and the innovative application of the Exhibition Laboratory in teaching practice, using the development experience from scratch as a clue. Teacher Huang Qing introduced the use of the hotel management virtual simulation experimental teaching system. Based on big data technology and relying on industry knowledge backgrounds such as marketing and asset management, the system provides students with a visualized operating platform. Dr. Chen Yujia used "Happy Learning and Serious Play" as an entry point to introduce the core processes and concepts of the LEGO method that some international enterprises and academia have begun to use, and proposed how to combine LEGO activity design and development with future teaching and research to cultivate new practical talents.

Finally, Dean Xu Hong summarized the symposium and pointed out the direction of the college's future development in utilizing laboratory resources for course development, project application, and talent cultivation, combining the spirit of the Nankai University Education and Teaching Conference. As a college belonging to two national first-class undergraduate program construction sites, the College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University has always adhered to the concept of quality education, promoting development through reform and seeking breakthroughs through innovation. The successful holding of this symposium provides clear ideas for the college's laboratory construction and curriculum reform.
