On the afternoon of January 14, 2022, Nankai University's "Professor Appointment" lecture was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Yu Haibo, the College of Tourism and Service Management. The lecture was warmly welcomed by the participating teachers and students.
The topic of Dr. Yu Haibo's lecture was "Reading White Deer Plain, Experiencing the Local Customs", which was hosted by Dr. Jiang Yawen, the Director of the Graduate School Training Office. The participants included Professor Fang Yongchun, Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School, Professor Yao Yanbo, Vice Dean of the College of Tourism and Service Management, and teachers and students from various colleges. In the lecture, Dr. Yu Haibo began with the supplementary role of classical work reading in research-oriented education, introducing the idea of sustainable development in eastern and western agricultural civilizations. Taking the pieces of the famous book "White Deer Plain" as examples, Dr. Yu Haibo led the audience to interpreting the characters of the works, appreciating the classics together, and revealing the warmth and strength of traditional Chinese culture and Chinese kindness contained in the rural society described in "White Deer Plain". Dr. Yu Haibo also discussed the significance of Rural Revitalization and Urban-Rural Integration in China for all urban and rural residents in combination with research projects and social development. Finally, Dr. Yu Haibo guided the students to rediscover the traditional cultural values of the rural China era, tolerate the diversified growth experiences of others and themselves, and encourage the students to unite and love, persevere, and take responsibility in an uncertain era, carrying forward the virtues of Nankai, and practicing rational beliefs. After listening to the lecture, the students expressed their feelings of benefiting from the lecture and interacted with Dr. Yu Haibo in the form of Q&A.
