More than 200 faculties and students from the College of Tourism and Service Management in Nankai University came to Tianjin Binhai New District to visit the boutique industrial tourism routes on November 13, 2021. Three teams of faculties and students visited the Airbus A320 assembly line, the Seagull Watch Company and Tianjin Machine Tool Museum in sequence.
The Airbus A320 assembly line is close to Tianjin Binhai International Airport, with a total area of about 800,000 square meters. Followed with the tour guide, the students went to the final assembly line area and gained an in-depth understanding of the assembly process of the aircraft.
The "Seagull" watch has a development history of more than 60 years since its birth in 1955. The development process over the years has laid a solid technical foundation for the manufacture of "Seagull" watches. The enterprise has now become a collection of research and development, production, assembly, sales for watch production base. As the leader of the new Chinese national industry, the "Seagull" watch has always maintained its sincere original intention and patriotic enthusiasm in international events such as the World Expo and the Olympic Games. Inside the exhibition hall, students took pictures of clocks and watches displayed. The collision of the wisdom of the ancients and modern industry makes the story of clocks and watches a legend.
Tianjin Machine Tool Museum is the first private public welfare machine tool museum in Tianjin, with a collection of more than 100 machines made in more than a dozen countries such as Switzerland, Germany, the United States, and the former Soviet Union, as well as more than 500 pieces of civil machinery such as old sewing machines and old telephones. Among them, the milling machine used by Tianjin Seagull Watch Factory to manufacture the first watch, the "two-hundred-year-old" shoe sewing machine and the world's earliest printing machine are all excellent products. Guided by the curator, the students seemed to have traveled back to the past and have a chance to understand the cultural symbols and historical information of each exhibit from the perspective of a tourism scholar.
It is reported that the Binhai New District Culture and Tourism Bureau launched the Bincheng Industrial Tourism Route in June this year and signed a strategic agreement with China International Travel Service Limited Tianjin branch. In the next step, they will continuously work together to launch new tourism products, improve supporting tourism services, establish the image of Bincheng, and drive economic growth.
As Nankai tourism scholars, students explore the wisdom of industrial tourism with the vision of speculation and discovery, and think about how to make industrial tourism more culturally attractive and economically driven from the perspective of a witness and innovator. Qin Xiaona, an undergraduate student of the college of tourism and service management, said about her feelings about the industrial tourism research: "this industrial tourism gives me a closer sense of the charm of industrial manufacturing, as well as the history of China's industrial development and the transformation and take-off of China's industry. We tourism scholars explore with questions, which is also a reflection of the unity of theory and practice from a diverse perspective."
