Lately, the Ministry of Education released the shortlist for the 2020 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major building points, in which the major convention-exhibition economy and administration of our college was identified as a national first-class undergraduate major building point. Two undergraduate majors of the College of Tourism and Service Management were listed as national first-class undergraduate major building points.
Nankai University established the major of convention-exhibition economy and administration as early as July 2008, and is among the key universities in China that established this major quite early. The Department of Convention-exhibition Administration was established in 2009 and was incorporated into the College of Tourism and Service Management in 2015, which derived strong support from Nankai University’s tourism discipline. After over ten years of development and accumulation, the major of convention-exhibition economy and administration has presented itself as a dynamic, practice-oriented major with strong demand for talents, and over time formed a development model in coordination with tourism management major. Underpinned by the comprehensive reform of undergraduate education and the construction of Nankai University’s “New Liberal Arts Department”, the major of convention-exhibition economy and administration takes account of the interdisciplinary characteristics of the convention-exhibition industry, identifies with the concept of disciplinary development based on “convention-exhibition plus” multidisciplinary integration, and views the deep integration of theoretical and practical teaching as the direction of reform, with the commitment to cultivating high-end talents of convention-exhibition management that meet the needs of the new era.
