On December 11, 2020, the 2020 2nd Tourism Internet Conference, co-sponsored by China Tourism Association’s Smart Tourism Branch, China Business News (CBN) and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., was held in Shanghai. Professor Qiu Hanqin, Dean of Nankai University’s College of Tourism and Service Management, was invited to serve as co-host of the conference and delivered a keynote speech on “Innovative Platform for Smart Tourism Online Education”.
Centering on the theme of “Smart Empowerment and Tourism Recovery”, the conference focused on the bottlenecks of industrial development, uncovered the achievements of innovation and development in smart tourism, and impinged on the future development trend of smart tourism. Qiu Hanqin, Dean of Nankai University’s College of Tourism and Service Management, shared insights on the characteristics and trends of the future development as to the industry and education of cultural tourism, the training model of the cultural tourism industry, and introduced Nankai University’s explorations and model innovations in the cultivation of talents in cultural tourism. Amid the new product release process, Dean Qiu Hanqin released the smart tourism online education innovation platform - Nankai University’s “International Culture and Tourism Development” micro-major program, producing a far-reaching social impact. The micro-major program with the courses like “International Tourism Development Dynamics”, “Tourism Policy and Planning”, “Culture and Tourism” and “Tourism Research Methods” as the core, invites famed scholars and experts at home and abroad to participate in the curriculum construction. Micro-major program courses are taught in all English and are equipped with Chinese and English subtitles for learners to choose from, helping them to achieve personalized learning. At present, the program has been launched on the platform - Treenity.

The conference appealed to experts and scholars from universities, cultural, scientific and financial industries from all over the country to participate, and was broadly disseminated through live webcasts. Sun Xian, Director of the Center for Innovation Education of the College of Tourism and Service Management, and Li Zhengli, a doctoral student enrolled in 2019, attended the conference and conducted exhibition as well as on-site publicity and presentations on the international culture and tourism development micro-major program. Through this conference, the College of Tourism and Service Management not only solidified the strategic deployment of the government’s “Internet plus tourism”, but also established close ties with the cultural tourism industry, and gave out the voice of Nankai University’s College of Tourism and Service Management.
