Recently, the Ministry of Education issued the Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Education on Publishing the List of National and Provincial First-class Undergraduate Majors in 2019, officially publishing the list of the national first batch of first-class undergraduate majors involved in the “Double 10,000 Plan” (building 10,000 national and 10,000 provincial first-class undergraduate majors by 2021). A total of 21 majors of Nankai University are listed as national first-class undergraduate majors, including the tourism management major of the College of Tourism and Service Management.

To comprehensively rejuvenate the undergraduate education, improve the talent cultivation capability of colleges and universities, realize the connotative development of higher education, in April 2019, the Ministry of Education issued the Notice on the Implementation of the “Double 10,000 Plan” for the Construction of First-class Undergraduate Majors, planning to build about 10,000 national and 10,000 provincial first-class undergraduate majors during 2019-2021.

Nankai University set up the tourism major in 1981, becoming the first university in China offering the undergraduate tourism major. In 2010, the College of Tourism and Service Management was officially established. The tourism management major of Nankai University has undergone nearly 40 years of development, during which it has, based on original major advantages and characteristics, actively implemented the national strategy of cultivating first-class undergraduate talents, continuously explored the reform and innovation of undergraduate tourism education, cultivated a large number of outstanding tourism management professionals for the country, and contributed to the development of the tourism industry in China in an all-around way. In the fourth round of discipline assessment of national colleges and universities by the Ministry of Education, tourism management, a secondary discipline of business administration, made active contributions to the Grade A result awarded to the primary disciplines of business administration by virtue of its distinctive discipline characteristic direction, compound talent cultivation mode and strong social service capability. To meet the needs of professionals in the development of the new era, the tourism management major, relying on the comprehensive undergraduate reform of the College of Tourism and Service Management and the construction of “New Liberal Arts” majors of Nankai University, actively promotes the in-depth integration of modern information technology and education&teaching, builds an international education platform, and makes breakthroughs in the diversified talent cultivation mode. It aims at cultivating practical, compound and innovative management talents mastering solid expertise and basic theory knowledge with international vision and strategic thinking ability and being able to meet the needs of tourism development.

In the new year, the College of Tourism and Service Management will seriously implement the First-class Undergraduate Education Quality Improvement Action Plan of Nankai University (2019 - 2021) (abbreviated as “40 Rules of Nankai University”) with the building of national first-class undergraduate tourism management majors as the core, and will further improve the quality of undergraduate tourism education under the “undergraduate-oriented” concept in line with the “Double 10,000 Plan” and assessment standards of the Ministry of Education for first-class undergraduate majors.
