Online Course Building Seminar of Nankai University was successfully held in the College of Tourism and Service Management

On December 20, 2018, the Online Course Building Seminar and Micro-Bachelor Press Conference for “International Culture and Tourism Development” of Nankai University was successfully held in the Conference Hall of the College of Tourism and Service Management. More than 120 participants from 25 universities, including Tianjin University, Tianjin Normal University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing International Studies University, Beijing Union University, Yangzhou University, Guilin Tourism University, Shunde Polytechnic, attended the meeting to discuss the new thoughts and wisdom for the educational development of MOOC 2.0.

The Seminar was presided over by Lin Kai, Section Chief of Teaching Management Section of Office of Academic Affairs, Nankai University, who, also, expressed his sincere appreciation and warm welcome to the guests, and invited Prof. Li Chuanyong, Head of Teaching Affairs Office, Nankai University to deliver a speech.

Head Li Chuanyong pointed out that Nankai University would spare no efforts in developing MOOCs2.0 in the future and create the Digital R&D Center in the New Era, so as to express the opinions and contribute the wisdom of Nankai in the new age.

Later, Prof. Carson Jenkins who comes from University Strathclyde shared the global online education development and the theoretical achievements.

Then, Zhang Jing (associate professor), from College of Liberal Arts, presented her feelings and experiences in the process of online course production and R&D with a thesis titled “Noble and unsullied white plum dresses up the Spring with strong fragrance” (new things always benefit mankind by their strength though they are not eye-catching).

Next, Zhang Weigang recalled the process how School of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering, as one of the earliest teams engaged in online course development, completed online conversion and recording of the “Methodology of Scientific Research”.

With the advancement of the conference process, Professor Qiu Hanqin, Director of the Digital Teaching and R&D Center, summarized the attributes of the MOOC in the Internet era at home and abroad. Taking the College of Tourism and Service Management as a pilot, Prof. Qiu first proposed a new teaching system based on Micro-Bachelor, Micro-Undergraduate and even Micro-Master.

The College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University launched the first course of Micro-Bachelor of NKU, International Culture and Tourism Development, which is composed of four core curriculums, that is, International Tourism Development Dynamics, Tourism Planning, Culture and Tourism, and Introduction to Tourism. On December 20, 2018, International Tourism Development Dynamics, the first course of Micro-Bachelor, was officially launched.

After the masterly speech, Prof. Qiu invited Professor Li Chuanyong, Zhang Jing and Zhang Weigang joined in the discussion of round-table conference. Prof. Qiu presided over the research group to conduct a heated discussion, during which the teachers deeply discussed and shared the technical routine implementation strategies and operation mode in the development process of online course. Especially facing with the development demand of universities in the future and the growing trend of internet, the participants were encouraged to participate in the future development of creating MOOC’s community.

At noon, Prof. Qiu Hanqin and engineers of Wisdom Tree deeply shared experience in online course design, production and operation. In the end, the participants visited libraries, broadcasting rooms, Kezhan and other teaching places under the guidance of teacher Sun Xian. The conference was ended at five o’clock between the lights. The guests spoke highly of innovation and efforts of Nankai University in the new era. In particular, the initiatives of Nankai University in the field of “Online Course” would actively promote the wave of in-depth research and development and construction of online education.
