Prof. Xu Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, Dean Qiu Hanqin, Vice-president Chen Ye and many teachers attended and observed the grand opening of the first “Star of Tomorrow • Tourism Academic Salon” which was held in the College of Tourism and Service Management on the afternoon of November 14. Prof. Jekinns was invited by the College to be present and give instructions. Li Tao, a doctoral candidate of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, and Wen Yanbo, a master degree candidate of Peking University, were invited to introduce and share their studies.
Prof. Jenkins expressed his pleasure to communicate with the teachers and students present and discuss the future together. Moreover, he encouraged the students to actively participate in academic research.
In the speech, Dean Qiu especially appreciated the presence for instructions and discussions of Jekinns, as well as the communications and sharing of excellent master and doctoral student from Peking University and Chinese Academy of Sciences. As a knowledge creator in the digital times, one of the missions of the College was to create history and culture and lead the development of education in the new era. The construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines was mainly driven by the internationalization of teachers, the means of which was reflected in the internationalization of students. The College would provide necessary assistance for the academic research of its teachers and students. Dean Qiu hoped that teachers and students could maintain the enthusiasm for learning and develop through mutual efforts under the joint leadership of the College.
Wen Yanbo, a master degree candidate of Peking University, shared the study themed “the Evolution of University Campus’s Landscape in the Process of Inland Urban Modernization”. Theoretically supported by genealogy, Wen Yanbo analyzed the contents of the documentary collections of Sichuan Archives and explored the space-time logic of the evolution of university’s landscape. Li Tao, a doctoral candidate of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, presented the study on the topic of “Regional Differences and Causes of Tourism Investment”. Through the spatial expression of geography, the method of econometrics and the interpretation framework of management, Dr. Li Tao mainly focused on the regional differences in investment in Chinese theme parks and their causes.
After presentation and sharing of all guests, a heated discussion and communication among teachers, students and guests was held, after which students of the College with research topics visited the Poster Exhibition Area in the lobby to deeply communicate with other participants, with a view to learning from others and learning together.
Undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students of the College have actively shared their satisfied works with themes covering subject-object interaction and co-creation, tourism poverty alleviation, sharing accommodation, perception of scent landscape and place attachment, tourism education, research on supply-demand of tourism planning talents, development of evaluation scale on tourism market order, tourism enterprise collaborative innovation, tourists’ field perception, short-rental platform demand and other aspects.The research themes not only included the hot spot and frontier of tourism research at present, but also focused on the development of new format, as well as the development of classical theory in the new era.
A number of professional teachers were also invited to participate in the Salon to guide and comment on and mark the students’ posters according to the communication of the presenters. Then, the College selected excellent research programs based on the scores; the award-winning students would be supported with some research funding.
In the fervent and amicable discussion atmosphere, this “Star of Tomorrow • Tourism Academic Salon” came to a successful conclusion.It has built a platform for students to externally communicate with each other. In addition, the studies shared by the Salon has broadened the research horizon and direction of students in the future.The students deeply exchanged with teachers and graduate students of other universities through this academic salon, in which case they were given recommendations on the promotion and improvement of their studies, which would be of great advantages to their research in the future.
