At the invitation of the College of Tourism and Service Management, Huang Zhenfang, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Tourism Faculty of Nanjing Normal University made an academic report titled Topic Selection, Reporting and Writing Skills for Tourism Scientific Research Project on November 6. As a professor who has been engaging in the study of ecological, cultural and rural tourism, in his report, he deeply introduced such issues as characteristics, requirements and source of topic selection of Natural Science Fund from the perspective of geography.
In the opinions of Prof. Huang Zhenfang, the “man-earth relationship” is the key for fund reporting in the field of geography. He took the examples of “human”, “earth” and “man-earth” to discuss how to select a scientific thesis. In total of six principles were concluded by Prof. Huang in terms of research topics:
(1) Any science is originated from issues. Topic not only relates to the direction, objectives and contents of scientific research, but also directly affects the ways and methods of scientific research, thus determining the level, value and prospect of scientific research results.
(2) Generally speaking, scientific issues should satisfy the objective requirements, real science, value innovation, and practicality andcontinue to be explored. New values should be endowed to the primal problems with introduction of new concepts and new theories as much as possible.
(3) Extensive reading is required to get hold of the academic foreland.
(4) In generally, scientific issues can be determined by three steps, that is, “research analysis and recognition—argumentation and selection—review and determination”.
(5) Keep your thesis novel and unique; remember that your thesis should not be too broad or extensive, and the profundity of study must come first.
(6) Try to keep issue orientation and weaken the technology orientation. Meanwhile, your thesis should be of universal meaning to achieve your goal and highlight the academic value, while considering application value and research basis. Also, Prof. Huang Zhenfang put forward his recommendations on the reporting of tourism scientific research projects.
In the end, Prof. Huang Zhenfang answered the questions from teachers and students, and his report aroused a heated discussion among the teachers and students of the College.
